The Collosphere artist collective was established in September 2025, initiated by Virág Vanek. The common thread uniting the artists is their shared dedication to pushing the traditional boundaries of the wet plate collodion process. The collective aims to transcend the technique’s purely archaic role, exploring deeper conceptual layers to uncover new possibilities within contemporary art.

As both a photographic technique and an imaging method, wet plate collodion is one of the oldest, yet simultaneously most sensitive and complex processes in photography.

It is at once more and less than human perception. It operates in black and white, yet flourishes in every shade of gray—including those that would not even exist without it. It is not a virtual bubble that seems to contain everything only to shrink, projecting an increasingly bleak and oversimplified worldview. On the contrary, this bubble—or rather, sphere—becomes more vibrant and complex the deeper we immerse ourselves in it. It is an inverse universe that still awaits exploration.

The debut exhibition of the Kolloszféra artist collective takes off from the foundation of classical artistic genres and topoi, yet approaches them from a contemporary standpoint. Exploring a presence disguised as the past, it unravels the connections between time, space, and human existence, starting from an abstract microcosm that contains the entire universe. Ranging from the most personal documents and pure abstraction to entirely new artistic expressions, the works reflect the future through the lens of the present.

A world where perhaps everything has fallen apart—or perhaps was never whole to begin with.

A world that seems to have derailed a little—yet perhaps never had tracks to follow.

A world where perhaps the parts do not form a whole—it is the whole itself that appears fragmentary.
